Dental implants: myths and reality

Dental Implants in Ukraine: Modern Technologies and Myths

Today, dental implants in Ukraine have become one of the most popular methods of prosthetics. However, opinions about them vary widely. As the saying goes, "there are as many opinions as there are people." Some people are familiar with implants from personal experience, while others rely on hearsay, often leading to misconceptions.

Debunking Common Myths About Implants

Myth 1: Implants are stronger than natural teeth

Indeed, after completing the one-year rehabilitation period, implants become more resilient and can withstand forces that natural teeth might not be able to handle.

Myth 2: Set the implant and forget about it

This is a misconception. Regular check-ups with your dentist, at least once every six months, are essential. This is a key factor for successful and long-lasting implantation.

Myth 3: Implants are harmful to health

All dental implants are made of titanium—one of the most biocompatible materials available. They do not have a negative impact on the body.

Myth 4: It's enough to brush crowns on implants with a toothbrush

For proper implant care, it’s important to use not just a toothbrush but also an irrigator. Plaque and tartar can form on implants just as they do on natural teeth.

Important Aspects of Dental Implant Installation

Choosing a Clinic

When selecting a clinic, consider two key factors:

  1. Operating Room Conditions:
The operating room must ensure maximum sterility and comply with all sanitary standards.

  2. Qualification of Implantologists:
The implantologist should be an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, which guarantees skilled and prompt responses to any unforeseen situations.

Why "Quick and Cheap" Isn't Always Better

Dental implantation requires time and quality execution. Quick and inexpensive solutions do not always guarantee successful integration and long-term results. This is a complex surgical procedure that requires careful and responsible consideration.

Modern Diagnostic Methods

Using CT diagnostics (CBCT) for the oral and maxillofacial area ensures high accuracy with minimal radiation exposure. In the past, orthopantomograms were used, but modern technologies have significantly improved the diagnostic process.

Preparation for Dental Implantation

The process of placing implants requires meticulous preparation. After tooth extraction, especially in a two-stage implantation, time is needed for healing and bone regeneration, which can take several months.

Surgical Stage: How an Implant is Placed

During the first stage of the surgery, a bed is prepared in the bone where the implant is inserted. This process takes about 30 minutes. The implant integrates over up to six months, during which temporary prosthetics are placed to protect the implant and surrounding tissues.

Prosthetic Stage: Installing Crowns

After the gum contour is shaped and the abutment is placed, impressions are taken to create the crown. This process takes about a week. The installed crown will be indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

Delayed and Immediate Implantation

Delayed implantation is performed after the socket of the extracted tooth has fully healed. This method is used in cases of complicated extractions or infections.

Immediate implantation allows the implant to be placed right after tooth extraction, speeding up the recovery process and ensuring a more natural implant position.

Conclusion

Dental implants in Ukraine are a reliable and proven technology that, when approached correctly, ensures longevity and a high quality of life. Choosing a qualified doctor and clinic, along with following all recommendations, is the key to successful implantation.
